Did you know there are several Bible Text Features included in the Bible to help you understand God’s Word? Just like you’ll find chapters, headings, or maps in a nonfiction book, you’ll also find them in the Bible!
But one of the things I have observed over my years of teaching kids at church {and at home} is that kids often don’t know how to use the text features or study tools found in their Bibles to help them dig deeper into God’s Word.
Teaching them the text features of their Bibles AND how to how to use them is vital to their growth as disciples of Christ as well as helps them identify false teaching when they hear it.
Bible Text Features Pack
This pack was developed for 4th grade and up and includes how to teach the Bible’s text features as well as fun games to give learners practice using them.
The text features covered in this pack include:
- Testaments ~ Old and New Testaments
- Chapters and Verses
- Introduction/Background of each book ~ often found in Study Bibles or Life Application Bibles
- Study Notes ~ often found in Study Bibles or Life Application Bibles
- Table of Contents
- Maps
- Bible Headings
- Concordance
- Cross References
You’ll find pages to help you TEACH each text feature. Each feature has been defined as well as the purpose of each is described.Learners can follow along with the already filled-in chart, underlining or highlighting important things about each one. Learners could also instead us the blank chart to take their own notes as you discover each feature.
To practice using chapters and verses, a “Sword Drill” game is included with easier verses as well as more challenging ones to find.
To practice the other text features, Bible Text Features Scavenger Hunts have been included. You’ll find…
- FOUR hunts in a level one format ~ Hints are given as to which text feature to use to find the answer.
- FOUR hunts in a level two format ~ Hints ARE NOT given as to which text feature to use, learners must figure out which text feature to use AND come up with an answer from the Bible.
