Final Stable Syllable Cards – Break it Down

If your learners are working on reading words with final stable {or consonant + le} syllables, these Break it Down Final Stable Syllable Cards {both digital and printable cards} are a simple way to give them practice.

 

Let’s Break it Down ~ Final Stable Syllable Cards

Sometimes learners struggle to move from reading simple one-syllable words to longer words, two-syllable words. Teaching syllable types is a helpful way to help them take their phonics knowledge to break apart longer words.

Final stable syllables can be a difficult concept to learn unless decoding these words broken down into bite-size steps, like the ones I teach in my YouTube and Rumble video.

These printable and digital cards give learners practice breaking apart two-syllable words that have final stable syllables. Note that the first syllable in these words will either be a closed syllable, open syllable, r-controlled syllable, or vowel team syllable.

Use these break it down cards to give your learners practice with dividing and reading words. The cards are available in THREE formats, so you can pick the one(s) that work best for you and your learners.

On each card, learners are asked to:

1. Look at the word
2. Examine the word’s syllables
3. Break the word down into its syllables -> 1st syllable + 2nd syllable {c + le}
4. Write the word in a sentence

All digital and printable cards are SELF-CHECKING! In Google Slides and Seesaw, learners can drag a box over to check their answers and read a sample sentence. Just print the answer key for learners to check their work if you’re using the printable cards.
