Just Swap 1 Short Vowel Game Boards

These Just Swap 1 short vowel game boards {as known as word chains} require learners to really listen for individual sounds in words {known as phonemic awareness}, which is a very important reading and spelling skill.

The idea is to start at the top and spell the first word with letter tiles. Each time you “move” on the game board, following the arrows, you only swap out one letter, such as cat to can. All boards come in color & blackline, so they are great for center work or any other independent work at school or home!

Print and cut out the lowercase letter “tiles” included in the pack or use plastic letter tiles.

Here are a couple of suggestions for use:

• Print & laminate the color versions to use over and over again.
• Print & copy the blackline boards and use as independent work. All but the very last blackline board come with lines so the learner can write his answers so you can check them later.
• Make the answer key available so kids can check their own answers.
