M.U.S.H. stands for:
- Main Idea – What is the text mostly about? Do you see details that support this topic?
- Uncover the Purpose – Why did the author write the text?
- Structure – What’s the text structure. This helps learners format their retellings.
- Helps – Text features are included to help learners find what’s important. Use them!
This isn’t a step-by-step retelling chart like S.C.O.O.P. This is more of a process. By understanding all the elements of MUSH, learners are better able to retell what they’ve just read about when it comes to nonfiction texts.
