Description
If your learners are working on reading words with syllable divisions of VC/CCV or VCC/CV, these Break it Down VCCCV Syllable Division Cards {both digital and printable cards} are a simple way to give them practice.
Let’s Break it Down ~ VCCCV Syllable Division Cards
After learners have mastered breaking apart words with the VCCV pattern like mitten {mit-ten} and helmet {hel-met}, bump up the challenge by giving them closed syllable words with THREE consonants in between the vowels. This is known as the VCCCV pattern and includes words like dolphin, pumpkin, or constant.
Even as learners progress into harder syllable types such as CVCe, r-controlled, or final stable syllables, the pattern of VCCCV still appears in words. Words like complete, orchard, and thimble all have three consonants in between the two vowels.
