You can create simple word work activities with these vowel sound phonics cards and multi-leveled word lists.
The phonics skills included work best for K-2nd and include:
- short vowel cards
- r-influenced vowel cards
- CVCe vowel cards {called “magic e” and/or “silent e”}
- long vowel digraph cards
- other vowel digraph cards
- diphthong vowel cards
- BONUS: letter consonant & consonant digraph cards
The multi-leveled word lists make differentiation much easier…a plus when you’re working with small groups or children of multiple ages! Level 1 includes single-single words with the vowel chunk while Level 2 includes 2-syllable words with the vowel chunk {found in the 1st or 2nd syllable}.
One simple way to use these vowel chunk cards is to ask the learner to spell words from the list on a dry erase board or in a salt tray, listening for the specific vowel chunk. The vowel chunk card is placed down and the rest of word is spelled by the learner. Such a great way to work on phonics!
On each card is the vowel chunk and a little image on the bottom right to remind learners of the sound that chunk makes, such as rain for vowel team AI. The key word is included on each vowel card page within the download so you’ll know for sure what they are.
